Dr. Henry Wright realized early on in the development of his ministry that sometimes discernment, repentance and deliverance alone were not sufficient for a person to be healed. So God began to lead him further into understanding why people are not healed. Dr. Wright discovered that not only are there spiritual roots of disease, but there are very specific principles in the scripture that indicate that there can be blocks to healing in a person’s life.
Discernment alone cannot bring us to healing.
Dr. Henry Wright says in his book, A More Excellent Way, “Discernment is just the opening of the door to understanding.” From discernment, we need to move forward into understanding and knowledge and then into wisdom. So not only do we hear something and understand it, we gain knowledge about it and then we learn how to apply it to our lives through wisdom.
We cannot move forward into the wholeness of life that God has prepared for us without the application of God’s principles and His ways. We have to appropriate them through obedience. This is about moving forward into our identity as children of God and growing up with a desire to be more like our Father in Heaven.
God has set standards in the scripture against the enemy.
If we come into agreement with God’s ways, the enemy has no right to access us in that area. The enemy can only have access to our lives in places that he’s been allowed to do so. These areas may be through generational mindsets that we’ve inherited or through our own unwillingness to follow God’s ways in an area of our lives.
As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come. Proverbs 26:2 KJV
If we have a desire, not only to be healed but to walk in the wholeness of life that God has prepared for us, we need to be diligent to understand where the enemy may have gained a foothold in our lives. Then we can come out of agreement with him and pursue the Father’s heart instead.
There are 33 blocks to healing.
Dr. Wright’s book, A More Excellent Way, lists thirty-three blocks to healing and there are more yet that can be found in scripture. Of all of these, the most common one and the first thing that we look at here at Be in Health® when we are ministering to an individual is unforgiveness.
If unforgiveness is present…
If this block is in place, a person can go no further in their overcoming journey. They will remain stuck until they have dealt with it and recovered themselves. Unforgiveness causes a breach in relationship not only with others and our self but with God as well. The Word clearly says that if we won’t forgive others of their sins against us, neither will God forgive us of our sins.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15 KJV
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses. Mark 11:25-26 KJV
Why is forgiveness so important to God?
Forgiveness is part of God’s nature and an essential component of how He deals with us. What He desires for us, as His children whom He has already forgiven and separated from our sins, is that we give the same courtesy to our brothers.
God sees our sin and He sees us as separate from the sin that dwells in us. That is what we call separation-the ability to see sin and hate it, but still see the person and love them. We can love them in spite of what might be manifesting through them, knowing that manifestation isn’t them anyways.
12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things [are] naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Hebrew 4:12-13 KJV
Forgiveness from God’s perspective:
Let’s look at forgiveness from God’s perspective through this parable that Jesus taught:
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.
29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. Matthew 18:21-35 KJV
We have been forgiven of much.
God has already forgiven us of countless sins and iniquities. The Word says that as far as the East is from the West, so far has He removed our sins from us. When we hold any number of trespasses against another person or people in our hearts, we are looking at dimes and quarters compared to the millions in debt that we have already been forgiven of.
Do unto others…
The principle of doing unto others as you would have them do to you could not be more applicable to this situation. In fact, we could take it further and say, “Do unto others as you would like Father God to do to you.”
If you forgive them, He will forgive you. If you will have mercy on others, He will have mercy for you. But if you repay evil for evil through unforgiveness, you have separated yourself from Him and chosen not to act according to His nature or represent Him in the Earth. You have chosen which camp you want to reside in and we can assure you that the enemy in that camp does not have your best interests, or your health, in mind.
The trap
Unforgiveness is a dangerous trap spread out for us by our enemy to keep us bound to the evil of the past and unable to move forward into freedom. It will recall and replay a person’s offenses against us over and over again and keep us stuck in bondage to it. Unforgiveness and bitterness has been likened to a person eating rat poison and expecting the rat to die. It is actually detrimental to our own health and freedom.
When we choose to release another person from their offenses against us, we are essentially placing them in God’s hands. We are removing ourselves from what they did against us and moving on. The Word teaches even further on how we are to treat our enemies:
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]? do not even the publicans so? 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Matthew 5:44-48 KJV
Let go and let God!
When we forgive and submit a person to God in prayer, He can actually change our heart for that person and give us a compassion that was otherwise impossible before. This is liberty! We can love the person who cannot love us because of the bondage they are in. We can hope for their freedom and deliverance and we can trust God that He can do a work in their hearts to heal them and recover them.
Heart perfection
The perfection referred to in this scripture is often mistaken for perfection of actions. Rather, it is the perfecting of our hearts in forgiveness towards others as we become more like our Father in Heaven.
Forgiveness is not a one-time act.
Forgiveness is actually a way of thinking and a manner of living. It’s truly a heart issue. Jesus even said while He was dying on the cross, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do!” It’s an attitude of love.
Love is the completeness of God’s nature. The Word says that God is love. If we want to be more like Him, we need to be love too. God loved us while we were still sinners and He asks us to represent that love to those around us. That love is the ultimate testimony of our faith.
By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. John 13:35 KJV
The person who really gets set free
The first step to recovering ourselves from this block to our own healing is to make peace in our heart with everyone we know. This might not always be possible face to face depending on whether or not that person is available to make peace with. Sometimes they are no longer living. But this is something we can come before Father God with and repent for and begin to allow Him to turn our hearts. We can ask Him to help us to see that person through His perspective and then we can release them in our hearts from the offenses we’ve held against them. You will find that the person who really gets set free is you!
Forgiveness is an act of obedience
We don’t forgive others because we feel like it. We forgive as an act of obedience to our Father because we love Him and we want to be more like Him. You can do this because you have the Holy Spirit in you that will give you the power to overcome. The Spirit of God gives you the power to think, speak and act like your Father and to forgive like your Father. God forgives you whether He feels like it or not.
Dr. Wright says this, “In the area of forgiveness, it is an attitude of the heart, not a ritual of performance.”
Who are you going to choose to be today?
Will you be a child of God who lives according to His example?
Or will you continue to follow the influence of the enemy in your life and look at others through his perspective of unforgiveness, bitterness and accusation?
You have the choice but one way will lead you closer to your health and healing and the other will hold you back from it. Why would you let unforgiveness be a block to healing in your life?
Blessings,
