Sin and Iniquity Block Our Healing

Sin and Iniquity Block Our Healing

Blocks to Healing Part 3

A hard pill to swallow

The idea that the root issues behind most diseases are a sin issue can be a hard pill to swallow. The idea of iniquity and the curse of our generations being passed down to us may seem harder yet to swallow.  In fact, many people who are suffering from disease stumble when this information is presented to them. It may seem harsh. Yet, the revelation and the understanding of the depths of this information may just hold the keys to their freedom and deliverance. It is important to understand why sin and iniquity block our healing so that we can acknowledge it and overcome it with the grace of God.

God’s grace vs. sin

Perhaps our first glitch comes from trying to relate our understanding of God’s grace and mercy to the idea of there being consequences for our sins. These questions and holdups cannot be pushed under the rug. They need to be brought forward and realized in their proper context so that a person can be led to a deeper level of understanding of who God is, and how He thinks. We also need to understand how the enemy can still operate in our lives even after we’ve been saved.

God’s point of view

It’s important that we make an effort to see things that we don’t understand from God’s point of view rather than trying to lean on our own understanding. It can be so easy to fall into accusation or offense when faced with information that we don’t entirely understand.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Proverbs 3:5-8 KJV

Exodus 34 gives us an amazing insight into who God is, and how He deals with mankind. We can use this to establish a baseline of understanding in our hearts.

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth [generation]. Exodus 34:6-7 KJV

The responsibility is ours

God is full of mercy and kindness to pull us in and deliver us if we are willing to be delivered. However, He puts the responsibility for our future generations on our shoulders if we choose not to recover ourselves. Basically, He’s putting the ball in our court. He’s given us all the tools we need to overcome sin and the consequences of sin in our lives through His Son, Jesus. However, it is our responsibility to line our hearts up with His and to learn how to use those tools, namely His Word and His Holy Spirit which is our helper.

The game of the ages

We can liken it to the basketball game of the ages. God is our coach, we have possession of the ball, and He’s offered to provide training and every resource that we need to know how to handle that ball skillfully. If we utilize those resources and lean on the insight and direction and training that He has poured into us by His Word and His Spirit, we can come against our opponent according to knowledge and understanding and go for the winning goal.

But, if we haven’t paid attention to our coach, if we have not participated in the drills and training, have not honed our skills or overcome our bad habits and just figured that the fact that He was our coach would determine whether or not we could win the game, we will be sorely disappointed when we come back to the bench defeated.

We were not set up as sons and daughters of God to be defeated.

We were never intended to be cast down and oppressed. Many of us are looking forward to Heaven in order to escape the sorrows of this life. We’ve become so Heavenly minded that we are of no earthly good. Jesus Himself led us by this example of prayer:

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. Matthew 6:9-10

When we pray this we are firstly accepting our place as Sons and Daughters of God by beginning with, “Our Father.” Then the prayer goes on to say, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Wait a minute! So His kingdom is supposed to come to earth? And His will is supposed to be done here too?

What is His kingdom and what is His will?

Let’s look at it as a spiritual position: There are two kingdoms, the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of the devil. We get to choose which kingdom we reside in. Often times we just roll with the choices of our generations and remain in the same sort of rut that they did. We live according to what is familiar and ‘easy’ but not necessarily according to knowledge. This is called generational iniquity. This lands us in the kingdom of the enemy. He loves to use ease and familiarity as His marketing ploys. We will find the evidence of this kingdom in our lives through its fruit: anger, unkindness, impatience, fear, rejection, diseases and disorders, oppression, heaviness, and the list goes on…

However, the Kingdom of Heaven operates differently, because it goes against our sinful nature that has been bred into us since Adam. The Kingdome of Heaven promotes love, joy, peace, patience, and other godly characteristics. It provides the opportunity for health, freedom, and wholeness of life. It requires an effort and a choice to pursue and remain in.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. Galatians 5:22-24 KJV

If there is bondage in our lives, can we say that we are free indeed?

Even a believer can serve sin in areas of their lives and be in bondage to it. How many of us revert directly to anger when something goes wrong? Is that a Godly fruit or a fruit from another father? Others of us live in a constant state of fear, anxiety, and stress. Is that freedom or bondage? So if we find ourselves automatically reverting to ungodly ways of thinking, speaking or acting in areas of our lives, would you say that we are free from the bondage of sin? Not really.

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: [but] the Son abideth ever. 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:34-36 KJV

Salvation is more than just a free meal ticket

There remains something further than just the salvation that we have already received through accepting the gospel of Christ. If we believe Him, yet do not walk in freedom, what have we gained more than a free meal ticket into Heaven? Do you really think that’s what He died for? Here’s what His Word says:

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 John 1:2 KJV

Questions to ask yourself

Are you prospering in the fruits of the Spirit in your soul? Are you walking in health? If not, we have great news for you, you can be! That is God’s perfect will for you!

If a person is searching for health and healing, which Kingdom do you think they should be looking to for it? We can guarantee that you will never find it in the enemy’s kingdom because all of his ways lead to death. In order to reside in God’s kingdom, the elements of the enemy’s kingdom need to be exposed, dealt with and removed. The mercy of this is that God is not looking for perfect performance, but instead to our hearts. Do we have a perfect hatred for sin? Do we have a heart that is open and willing to receive His instruction and to walk in it? That’s what He can use to lead us to the good fruits and towards health and healing.

What this looks like

So what does it look like to live after the Spirit of God rather than according to the law of sin and death?

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Galatians 5:13-14 KJV

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Galatians 5:16-18 KJV

The standard to reach towards

This is our litmus test of where we are at spiritually: Are we walking according to love? The Word says that God is love, therefore, are we walking in the image of God in this world?

What blocks our healing is continuing to walk according to our flesh – according to sin, according to our own ways, whether that is through generational iniquity or personal sins. This is why praying for healing only works 5-10% of the time. When it doesn’t work, it’s time to turn to our Heavenly Father and ask Him to help us to search out any root issue that is giving that disease a legal right to our lives. According to our experience at Be in Health®, over 80% of diseases have a spiritual root issue. There is something that has opened the door to the enemy’s “blessings” (which are actually a curse) in a person’s life.

No condemnation

When God exposes something in our hearts that is not of Him, there is no condemnation. Rather, He’s provided a way of escape and a way to overcome. So we can, in fact, count it all joy when we recognize these things, because that is our opportunity to remove them and move forward into freedom!

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:2-4 KJV

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it]. 1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV

The 8 Rs to Freedom

So what is that escape? At Be in Health®, we call them the 8Rs to freedom. We Recognize the sin or iniquity. Then we take Responsibility for listening to it and agreeing with it. We Repent to God for allowing it to rule in our lives. We Renounce it. Then we Remove it – telling it to go in Jesus’ name. Next, we Resist it (this is saying “No” to the programmed ways of thinking and participating with the Holy Spirit to develop new pathways of thought that line up with God’s Word). Then we get to Rejoice in our new freedom and the fruit of it. Finally, we can Restore others too!

These are the tools that the Word offers us in order to help us to apprehend our freedom and overcome the enemy in a very real way. If we have received the gift of salvation already and have received the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, these gifts are at our disposal to use whenever necessary.

Jesus’ purpose

This understanding breathes new life into the verse that references Jesus in the book of the prophet, Isaiah:

The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound. Isaiah 61:1 KJV

That, dear brothers and sisters, is why He came, why He died and is the legacy He’s given to each one of us who believe. The choice is ours whether or not we will receive that gift and walk in the fullness of it according to knowledge. Sin and iniquity do not need to intimidate us or cast us down, but they do need to be acknowledged and recognized so that we may move forward into health and wholeness.
