Is Disease From God?

God’s Image is the Key to Healing

The question, “Is disease from God?” may come with many conflicting opinions. At Be in Health®, we have discovered in the Bible the keys to understanding where disease comes from and how to overcome it. Through these insights, we have seen tens of thousands of people healed and recovered from every manner of disease, disorder, and mental health issue. In order to understand it deeper, we must start out by exploring how God originally designed us.

How we were designed

The Bible says something extraordinary about mankind. It says that we were created in the image of God. Think about that for a minute. He designed us to be expressions of Himself in the Earth. He had the intent, from creation, that we should be His sons and daughters. But then something tragic happened; man decided that he didn’t want to live according to God’s ways but to find his own way and then rebelled and ate of the forbidden fruit. From that time on, Satan and his kingdom had a legal right to influence the thoughts of man.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27 KJV

The tragedy of the ages

Can you imagine the sorrow that God must have felt when man rejected His ways and traded the perfection of His creation for an inferior product? Yet God did not wipe man out in a fit of rage. He had already formulated a plan to send His Son to come and redeem mankind to Himself once again. Ever since, He’s been walking with us throughout history leading whoever would be led and allowing those who would not to walk in their sovereignty and the consequences of their own choices.

Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. Lamentations 3:22 KJV

When death and disease came on the scene

Death, disease, and destruction had no authority to rule in the Earth until they were given the open door by Adam in his disobedience.

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Romans 5:12 KJV

Even so, the Word of God says that Jesus came that we could have abundant life. Do you think that disease represents abundant life? Here’s what God’s Word says:

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10 KJV

Disease is not a “gift” from God. In fact, it’s a “gift” from the enemy when we follow his nature rather than God’s. We were designed to operate optimally in God’s image.

What is God’s image?

God’s image is His nature. The Word says that He is love, so when we allow God to form us back into His image, we will see the fruit of love and of His Spirit operating through us.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. 1 John 4:16 KJV

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 KJV

When our spirit is aligned with God and His nature, guess what happens to our body? It lines up with how God created it to be, to function and serve us in strength and health!

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 KJV

If health is a product of God’s nature in us, what is disease?

Disease is the fruit of the enemy’s nature in us. We’ve been trained from infancy, from our generations, and from our own conclusions to agree with ways of thinking, speaking, and acting that are not from God. Often times those ways are so normal to us that we don’t know any different!

We need God’s Word.

That is why we need the Word of God. It says that God sanctifies and cleanses His church by the washing of the water of the Word. We need to be familiar with His Word so that we can learn His ways and be instructed in righteousness. His Word also helps us to identify and discern all unrighteousness in our lives.

That he might sanctify and cleanse it (the church) with the washing of water by the word. Ephesians 5:26 KJV

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV

God says that even His church, those who already believe in Him need to be sanctified and cleansed! He doesn’t just want to save us from hell and send us to Heaven! He wants us to experience the fullness of life and health here on earth! God wants to form us into His image here on Earth so that we can be ambassadors for Him and represent Him and His nature in the World.

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Matthew 5:13 KJV

Foiling the enemy’s plot

The enemy does not want us to understand this! He wants us to be trodden under foot. He wants to keep us low and unstable so that we cannot be overcomers. The enemy knows that the moment that we rise up as the sons and daughters that we were called to be in our Father’s image, he and his kingdom are in trouble!

We are not alone, we have help!

God does not expect us to figure this out on our own. That’s what His Holy Spirit is for. In fact, we cannot do it on our own because we are not saved by our own works.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV

We need to learn how to be led by the Spirit of God so that He can lead us in all good things and form us into His image, in His way, not according to our own understanding. Our understanding of His nature is so finite, it could never measure up to the wholeness of what He’s prepared for us. That’s why Romans 8 says this:

For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:13 KJV

What can we trust?

We cannot rely on our own understanding; we cannot rely on our own intellect; we can’t even rely on the precepts or wisdom of men. Our desire, above all, should be towards our Heavenly Father to seek His heart, His will, and His ways.

Defeating disease

If we are interested in becoming who God created us to be without the junk that life’s plastered onto us, we can plan on defeating disease. If we plan on being changed into His image, we can expect God to heal and remove any diseases that are on us now. Disease is not happenstance – it follows people who are not or do not want to be changed into God’s image.

Most of us have done the best we knew how but never recognized how the enemy has influenced our lives. Perhaps we did not realize that there were things in our lives that did not match up to God’s ways. The Word says this:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… Hosea 4:6

Disease is not your fault!

Who do you think has an agenda to keep us from knowledge and understanding God’s ways? Our enemy wants to keep the complete truth hidden from us so that we cannot walk in freedom and healing. But God is so faithful that when we recognize and turn from the enemy’s trap, He will forgive us and completely remove that stuff from us.

For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:11-12 KJV

Renewal is a process

We all wish being changed into His image could be a quick switch yet it is an exercise of patience. At Be in Health®, we call it Walk Out. There is a journey that every person will travel throughout their lives of overcoming, being renewed, and growing up into who God created them to be. A toddler cannot suddenly decide to be an adult and Voila! There they are! They must participate with the instruction and direction of their parents as they learn to navigate the world around them.

We have the perfect Father which is in Heaven, who will raise us and teach us in His perfect ways if we will submit ourselves to Him.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17 KJV

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 KJV

What to expect

So if we want to grow up into this we can expect to fall and get back up again. We can expect to fail but then we can ask God to teach us through our failures. His patience does not run out, he knows that we are dust.

Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. Psalm 103:13-14 KJV

The Word also says this:

For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. Proverbs 24:16 KJV

We need to exercise ourselves in righteousness, we need to keep on practicing and keep on moving forward no matter how hard or far we fall. Jesus gave us the amazing gift of forgiveness for our sin so that the slate will be cleared each time we repent and we can continue to move forward.

… And exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 1 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV

How do we exercise in Godliness?

We exercise Godliness when we learn to be people of faith, not fear. We become people of truth, not lies or superstition. We become people of forgiveness, not unforgiveness and bitterness.

The golden standard

Jesus set before us the golden standard – the mark to reach that would fulfill all of this. With it we will not get distracted or frustrated in His ways:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22:37-40 KJV

If our heart’s desire is to be like our Father; if we desire and seek to love Him, to love others and to receive His love above all things, our health will surely come. And we will be renewed and restored to the person that God created us to be; whole and thriving in love, not just surviving.

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases. Psalm 103:2-3
