Restore your Circadian Rhythm Sleep Cycle

Don’t worry about your sleep anymore, God can help you restore your circadian rhythm sleep cycle with the insights in these 14 Bible verses.

Why can’t I sleep?

Circadian rhythm is your body’s natural regulation of sleep and wake times. Disruption of the body’s internal clock can have a huge effect on productivity and overall health. You can keep your circadian rhythm in check with healthy habits such as managing stress (defeating FEAR), creating a dark sleep zone, getting out in the sunshine during the day, and eating a healthy diet. God can help you defeat fear and stress in your life and restore your circadian rhythm sleep cycle.

The biology of sleep

Hormones regulate our entire physiology and depend upon the functioning of our biological clocks. As you can imagine, if your circadian rhythm is out of whack, this can lead to hormones being produced at the wrong times or at the wrong levels.

The most important hormones affected by your circadian rhythm are melatonin and cortisol. Melatonin regulates sleep by causing drowsiness and cortisol is used to form glucose and enables anti-stress and anti-inflammatory functions in the body.

Your body’s natural internal 24-hour clock influences how much melatonin is made. A slow release of this hormone into the bloodstream starts between 8 and 10 pm making you feel drowsy and signaling your body to prepare for sleep.

Cortisol and its role in sleep – or lack thereof

Cortisol is often referred to as the “stress hormone” because it is also released during times of stress and creates the “fight or flight” response. Producing too much cortisol can leave you in a heightened state of stress on a continuous basis.

Cortisol is the master stress hormone and very important for the circadian rhythm. If you’re under stress, you’ll have all the effects of elevated and dysregulated cortisol to deal with, which will undoubtedly disrupt your circadian rhythm. Too much cortisol released due to fear will disrupt the natural production of melatonin.

Why can’t I sleep?

Perhaps your enemy has attacked you with a spirit of fear that is causing stress and disrupting your circadian rhythm.

How can you lower stress and rid yourself of FEAR? You must know what the Word of God says, believe it, and live it.

Restore your Circadian Rhythm

It has been said that whatever stressors are not dealt with during the day will disrupt our sleep at night. God tells us to cast all of our cares on Him and to submit our thoughts and actions to Him. In that state of resting and trusting in God, peace will come to our hearts and sleep will come more freely.

Also, cast down any imaginations or thoughts that tell you that you cannot sleep because of _________. That is just temptation and you do not need to agree with it. Rather, agree with what God says about your sleep.

Sleep sweetly!
