I deal with many adults who have diseases from the fear of failing others, performance, and perfectionism.
Some people spend their entire life trying to make everyone else happy and make no allowance for weakness or failure in themselves. They think to admit weakness or failure would mean that they failed. However, that’s a deceptive form of entrapment where our value is based on how good we are and how well we do. The enemy tells these individuals there is no allowance for weakness or failure because that might mean they won’t be loved or accepted if they didn’t handle or respond to something perfectly.
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness…” 2 Corinthians 12:9a
Your generations may have never modeled or celebrated the strength of God in their weakness. Do you know how much access and attention you have from your Father when you allow Him to form you in weakness? Do you give the Father time to show off to you His provision and power? Jesus gave the Father back to us so that He can be the provider of your spiritual existence and companion in your journey. Stop being so strong to yourself.
Take some thoughtful inventory of your family tree for that spirit that tempts you with feelings of inadequacy. Look for that possible tendency to cover it up with doing right things and good deeds. Turn on it! Turn against it! Release yourself from the possibility of inherited iniquity of performance and perfectionism in order to hide weakness. You command the spirit of fear to “go” in the name of Jesus.
[tweet_dis]Though the righteous fall seven times, he shall rise again.[/tweet_dis] Part of being a spiritual human is to make a provision for weakness and failure. We must let our children and others around us be prepared that when they fail they do not feel like they’re a failure.“For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” Proverbs 24:16
On your journey, remember you’re just a guy or just a gal, aren’t you? You’re not God, are you? You may not understand everything, but you can recognize fear working in your life. You can say no to fear, and you can choose to trust God.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
