The Joshua Generation – We Will Believe the Report of the Lord

An elderly woman once told me that we were the Joshua generation. I didn’t understand what she meant back then, but now I get it! She was telling me that there’s a time coming where we’re going to need to have the qualities that Joshua had. I believe that season is right now, and God is watching us and maybe even trying us to see what spirit we are of. What are we going to do at this time? He wants to see if we will believe the report of the Lord or the report of the world? It’s so critical that we diligently seek the truth right now. We need to seek God’s perspective above all else and get into His Word so that the world’s negative report does not sway us.

With God’s perspective, we can have the faith to know and believe that He can take the giants down, just as David had the faith to believe that God would help him take down Goliath. Our battle is not in the physical; we need to remain steadfast in faith and prayer to declare God’s will and tear down the strongholds we face.

Joshua and Caleb had a right spirit with God.

We find the story of Joshua and Caleb in Numbers chapters 13 and 14. God told Moses to send twelve spies into the Promised Land to scout it out and bring back a report. Of those twelve, only Joshua and Caleb came back with a good report. They declared boldly that God would help them possess the land and overcome it. The other ten spies stirred up the people to fear and kept them from believing Joshua and Caleb. Because of their unbelief and their murmuring and complaining, God vowed that their generation would not enter the Promised Land.

Then God says this about Caleb in Numbers 14:24:

But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it. Numbers 14:24 KJV

There’s power in the report of the Lord.

There was something different in Caleb and Joshua that set them apart from the Israelites’ whole congregation. The Word says that they had ‘another spirit.’ They chose to put their faith in God and believe the report of the Lord; that what He promised, He would accomplish. They knew it had nothing to do with their strength, but it had everything to do with the Almighty God who was on their side.

My question to you today is, are you of another Spirit, or are you of the spirit of murmuring and complaining that died in the wilderness?  In these times, it may be easy to become so blinded by the reports that we hear and the things that people tell us that we cannot see the hand of God working in our midst.

Whose report will we believe? We will believe the report of the Lord!

This is an exciting season, and I cannot wait to see what God’s going to do with it! I don’t want to hinder His work or cause others’ faith to waver because of murmuring and complaining. Joshua took the land and everything else that God put in front of him no matter what the odds were, no matter how big an obstacle stood in his path. He was steadfast and obedient; he did not rebel or question God. He believed in the Word of the Lord.

Today I challenge you, pray for our country, pray for the world, pray for your loved ones and those who cross your path. Especially pray for our nation’s leadership, that God’s hand will be upon them to lead them in wisdom. Pray that God will overturn the spirit of death that has taken the lives of countless infants through abortion, and is not running rampant throughout the world.

Remain steadfast in your faith

Remain steadfast. And if you recognized that you’ve participated with murmuring and complaining, repent. Take it to God, and ask Him to strengthen your faith. Remain in His Word and let His report be the first thing that you focus on each day. Let’s look forward to seeing the goodness and the glory of the Lord manifest in the world. We can stand in faith that He will fulfill His plan and expose and overturn the enemy’s works. Together, we will believe the report of the Lord and look forward to inheriting His wonderful blessings and promises both in this world and in the world to come.
